Lunatic Plate Setup
Lunatic plates are specialised microfluidic plates designed for use with the Unchained Labs Lunatic UV/Vis spectrophotometer to quantify and assess the purity of nucleic acid and protein samples. Each sample is loaded into an individual microfluidic circuit within the plate, allowing absorbance measurements to be performed using very small sample volumes.
A key advantage of Lunatic plates is their low sample volume requirement, typically requiring only a few microlitres per sample. This helps conserve valuable samples while enabling rapid, high throughput analysis of up to 96 samples at a time. The fixed plate format also reduces the manual handling associated with individual measurements and provides a convenient approach for analysing large sample batches. Depending on the application, Lunatic measurements can be used to determine sample concentration and assess purity before downstream workflows such as PCR, sequencing and library preparation.
For laboratories processing larger numbers of samples, Lunatic plate setup can be automated on the Myra liquid handling system. Myra can transfer samples from source plates or tubes into the corresponding wells of the Lunatic plate, reducing repetitive manual pipetting, improving consistency between samples and simplifying preparation of the plate before analysis on the Lunatic instrument.
